They are designed for 6 years and plus, however everyone from my 17month old daycare children, 4 year old step daughter and 5 year old son LOVE them. One day I had 4 children rocking and dancing along to the video at once. We can be walking down the street and my son and daycare children will break into song “A, E, I, O, U and sometimes Y.”
I love that the video really requires viewer participation. You not just plunking your child in front of the TV to just view it, the characters encourage the children to actively sound out words, they provide pauses so the child can say the word before the narrator.
The videos are 70mins long, but they recommend only show the child parts of the video at once. What I found worked with my son is I allowed him to watch it till he stopped paying attention. Usually at this point the video was playing something he was not ready for yet. Every time we played it though he watched it a tiny bit longer, and started reading more and more words before the narrator.
Overall I’m thrilled with this DVD it has become a favorite. I usually have kids dancing with a play guitar and using wooden spoons as microphones. And the music is something that adults can handle too.
I’m going to be honest and say we haven’t spent much time watching Rock N’ Learn Vol 2, only because my kids are not at the level yet.
Rock ‘N Learn Phonics Volume 2 DVD is perfect for students after they’ve mastered the material on Volume 1.
But what I can say from the short time I did watch it is I’m confident once my son completes Rock N’ Learn Vol 1 we will be moving on Vol 2. It looks equally exciting and well made.
Would we recommend these videos? In a heartbeat! Even the children that I watch that find all educational videos “Boring!” Love these ones.
Thank-you to Rock N’ Learn for providing me the chance to review these great DVDs. I was not required to write a positive review, the options expressed are from my own personal experience and the only thing I received from the company were the DVDs themselves.
