Recently I have been following a Opendiary friend’s 60 day juice fast detox. Now while I can’t do a detox because I’m pregnant, she still inspired me that I should be eating much healthier. I’m in the last 10 weeks of my pregnancy, and while I was good for the first and second trimester, I have really started to let myself go these last few weeks. I’m also having CRAZY cravings for milk, and even thought I’m going through a gallon of skim milk every two days TO MYSELF, the craving is not going away. It makes me wonder if my body is saying milk, but really wanting other nutrients as well.
Now before the critics come out and start judging, I am not doing this as a diet. I still plan to eat non-raw foods too. I plan of giving into a craving or two (heck I had a donut today!) BUT that being said, I need to kick it up a notch and make sure I’m getting all those fruits and veggies my body was getting the 1st and 2nd trimester. Then if I indulge in a sugary snack I won’t feel AS guilty knowing that Baby Z has gotten his healthy nutrients too. PLUS there are studies out there now(HERE) saying:
“According to the research, the smell and scent of the foods a mother eats during pregnancy are transmitted through amniotic fluid in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. The growing baby is exposed to these flavors just as taste receptors on their tongue and nasal cavity are quickly developing. The flavor of the amniotic fluid, determined by the foods the mother eats, appears to influence the developing baby’s future palette. Distinct flavors such as vanilla, garlic, carrot, and mint have been shown to be more strongly transmitted to amniotic fluid.”
So that being said since I was doing so well up until recently, I don’t want to blow it now!
Also the idea of controlling the amount of weight I gain, to a healthy safe amount, so that I can potentially have an easy birth experience will benefit me and my baby.
So whats the plan then?
Well, I decided that I would like to start off with one mid day green smoothie a day for the rest of this week. That would give me about 5 servings of fruits and veggies in one glass. Then next week step it up to one breakfast green smoothie and one mid day green smoothie for the rest of my pregnancy. For a total 10 servings of fruits and veggies! Then of course regular meals, and snacks. Hopefully this will prevent me from pigging out on less then healthy items and saving them as treats.
