There are so many great books on the market on the topic of autism. I’ve decided to compiled a list of books that are in my opinion a MUST READ for parents who have children diagnosed with ASD and want to do whatever they can to help them.
Some of these books are also great to have close family members, like grandparents or people who care for you child to read. I will help them understand why you are choosing to do what you do with your child.
I should also note that not all people will agree with my list. Jenny McCarthy has been slammed in the media and people have tried to discredit her. However she is a mom and her experience is valid. When my eldest was diagnosed, he books helped me not feel alone. I didn’t want to hear from doctors that didn’t know what we were going through. I wanted to hear from other moms.
Fit Baby, Smart Baby, Your Baby!: From Birth to Age Six: which is suppose to be the updated version of How to Teach Your Baby To Be Physically Superb. The only reason I recommend How to Teach Your Baby to Be Physically Superb over Fit Baby, Smart Baby, Your Baby! is because I’ve never actually looked at Fit Baby, Smart Baby!, but I heard they are very similar.
The BIG Book of ABA Programs: – Michael M. Mueller Ph.D. BCBA-D and Ajamu Nkosi Ph.D. BCBA-D. If you are waiting on a wait list for ABA services or are wanting to run a few ABA programs of your own, I call this one the ABA Bible.
